Akwa Ibom State is one of the fast developing state in Nigeria, is in the South - South geo-political zone, and is bordered on the east by Cross River State, on the west by Rivers State and Abia State, and on the south by the Atlantic Ocean.
The state has 31 Local Government Areas, is one of the Nigeria's 36 states with a population of over five million people.
The capital of Akwa Ibom State is Uyo.
His Excellency, Emmanuel Gabriel Udom is the present Governor of the state.
There are more 20 languages spoken in Akwa Ibom State,

5. Obolo /Andoni
6. Ibino
7. Itu Mbon Uso
8. Okobo
9. Efai
10. Enwang
11. Etebi
12. Ibuoro
13. Idere

20. Iwere
21. Igbo.
However, central language that is understood by 98% of the people in the state is Ibibio.
Akwa Ibom State was created on the 23rd September, 1987 from Cross Rivers State.
